Here is another botanical study in progress. I took my watercolor block to the park and literally sat down and started painting this interesting looking tree! I must say, it is a complicated texture... I need to take a photo reference shot of it, but basically...
the tree's bark is peeling off like sheets of paper... Add in lighting as a factor, and the texture of the trees bark becomes very complex to paint.
So far all I have is the base color down and a little bit of the bark texture down ontop of that...
I need to finish adding the bark texture, then touching up with various shade and light details.
My mind is a bit too "micro" and I need to macro up a bit. Getting down the shape of the texture first, then moving on to detail might speed up the overall process.
What park do you go to? Maybe we should go do this together sometime. I haven't done watercolor in a good while, and I've never done it outside. Should be fun :3
ReplyDeleteyeah! I went to hobgood park. It's in woodstock, as we already discussed today. However, I would love to go to some random trail/park and do some studies of the earth!
ReplyDeleteThere are even a few around the dunwoody area... In a few weeks we should definitely make a point to go. The leaves will have changed color!
I like to hike the trail across the street from my apartment complex sometimes. There's also a trail in the complex itself, but I only walked it once, I think. I need to get my ass to Stone Mountain Park. I have still never been, even though I've wanted to go for over two years now, if only because I wanted to experience it with another person, and no one's been available/willing.
